About
The Challenge
This project was about designing a logo for Swell Coast Handyman Services, one that would communicate reliability, skill, and a coastal identity. The logo needed to strike the balance between professional and rugged, appealing to homeowners and businesses looking for high quality, dependable handyman services. It had to feel approachable but still stand out and work across everything from signage and business cards to stationery and digital platforms. The main challenge was combining the sturdy, trustworthy tone of a handyman brand with the laid back, natural elements of coastal life to create something that felt both professional and inviting.
The Approach
I started by digging into existing handyman logos and coastal themed branding, looking for ways Swell Coast could carve out its own identity. I explored imagery like lighthouses, waves, forests, and tools, seeing how these elements could be woven into the design. Understanding the brand’s audience was key. The design needed to cater to homeowners and small business owners who value quality craftsmanship and reliability. I built a mood board with colors, typography, and inspiration that captured that rugged yet coastal aesthetic. Then came the sketching phase where I explored ways to combine handyman imagery with coastal references. I also kept in mind how the logo would work across different applications, ensuring it was clear and effective at any size, from business cards to vehicle decals.
What I Did
With the direction clear, I moved into refining my sketches into digital concepts. I selected typography that felt professional but approachable, and built custom vector elements to bring the design to life. I experimented with combinations of symbols, colors, and layouts, looking for the right balance. The chose a color palette of, earthy tones, deep blues and greens, and neutral grays to reflect the colors of the coast. After narrowing down the logo variations, I gathered feedback, tweaking typography, spacing, and overall balance. I made sure the logo translated well across formats and sizes, from print to digital. Finally, I did a quality check to make sure everything was sharp, aligned, and ready for action before delivering the final files.
